Malecot Drainage Catheter

The Malecot drainage catheter is a specialized medical device designed for effective and secure drainage of fluids from body cavities, such as the bladder, kidneys, abscesses, or other fluid collections. Named after its unique "wings" or "petals" at the tip, the Malecot catheter is widely used in urology, interventional radiology, and general surgery for its ability to provide reliable drainage while minimizing the risk of dislodgement.

    Product Features

    ● Unique Winged Tip: The catheter has a distinctive tip with expandable wings (resembling a "flower" or "umbrella") that open once positioned inside the cavity. This design prevents accidental displacement and ensures secure placementand ensures high drainage efficiency for viscous liquids.
    ● Flexible and Soft Material: Made from biocompatible materials Thermoplastic Polyurethane, the catheter is soft and flexible, reducing the risk of tissue damage.
    ● Multiple Sizes: Available in various lengths and diameters to suit different patient needs and clinical applications.
    ● Radiopaque Markers: Some models include radiopaque markers for easy visualization under imaging guidance (e.g., X-ray or ultrasound).

    COMPONENTS

    ● Drainage tube is composed of drainage tube, connecting tube, dilator, scalpel, guidewire, puncture needle, syringe, three-way stopcock, catheter fixer and catheter fixing clip.

    Instruction for use

    Preparation:
    ●  Gather the catheter set, sterile supplies, and imaging equipment.
    ●  Clean and sterilize the insertion site.
    Insertion:
    ●  Use imaging guidance to locate the target cavity.
    ●  Insert the catheter using a trocar or introducer.
    ●  Deploy the winged tip by gently pulling back on the catheter.
    Securing the Catheter:
    ●  Suture or secure the catheter to the skin.
    ●  Connect the proximal end to a drainage bag or collection system.
    Post-Insertion Care:
    ●  Monitor drainage output and catheter function.
    ●  Keep the insertion site clean and dry.
    Removal:
    ●  Gently collapse the winged tip using the locking mechanism (if applicable).
    ●  Slowly withdraw the catheter while monitoring for any complications.

    Product application

    ● Urology: Used for bladder drainage (e.g., suprapubic cystostomy) or kidney drainage (e.g., nephrostomy).
    ● Interventional Radiology: Drains abscesses, cysts, or other fluid collections.
    ● General Surgery: Used for postoperative drainage or managing ascites.
