Center Venous Catheter

Central Venous Catheter (CVC), also known as a central line, is a medical device inserted into a large central vein (such as the jugular, subclavian, or femoral vein) to provide direct access to the bloodstream. It is used for a variety of medical purposes, including administering medications, fluids, blood products, or parenteral nutrition, as well as monitoring central venous pressure (CVP). CVCs are essential in critical care, surgery, and long-term treatment settings.

    Product Features

    ● Movable clamp allows anchorage at puncture site regardless of depth of catheter, which minimizes trauma and irritation to the puncturing site.
    ● Depth marking assists in accurate placement of central venous catheter from the right or left subclavian or jugular vein.
    ● Soft tip reduces trauma to vessel, minimizing vessel erosion, hemothorax and cardiac tamponade.
    ● Single, double, triple lumen is available for choice.

    Instruction for use

    PRE-PROCEDURE PREPARATION

    ● Patient Assessment: Verify indication and vein patency (ultrasound recommended).
    ● Equipment: Sterile CVC kit (catheter, guidewire, dilator, sutures), ultrasound machine, sterile drapes, antiseptic (chlorhexidine/alcohol), local anesthetic (1–2% lidocaine).

    INSERTION PROCEDURE

    ● Positioning & Sterilization: Place patient in Trendelenburg (jugular/subclavian) or supine (femoral), sterilize skin with >0.5% chlorhexidine.
    ● Vein Access: Use ultrasound-guided Seldinger technique.
① Insert needle, aspirate blood to confirm vein.
    ② Thread guidewire, remove needle.
③ Dilate tract, advance catheter over wire.
④ Remove wire, confirm blood return.
    ● Securement & Dressing: Suture catheter + apply sterile transparent dressing. Confirm placement via CXR (tip at SVC/RA junction).

    POST-INSERTION CARE

    ● Flushing: Heparinized saline (for intermittent use). 0.9% saline (continuous infusions).
    ● Dressing Changes: Every 7 days (transparent) or 2 days (gauze).
    ● Complication Monitoring: Pneumothorax, infection, thrombosis.

    Product application

    ● Critical Care: Administering medications, fluids, or vasopressors in intensive care units (ICUs).
    ● Chemotherapy: Delivering chemotherapy drugs or other long-term medications.
    ● Parenteral Nutrition: Providing nutritional support for patients unable to eat.
    ● Hemodialysis: Serving as temporary vascular access for dialysis (e.g., non-tunneled CVCs).
    ● Monitoring: Measuring central venous pressure (CVP) in critically ill patients.
