Arterial Catheter

An arterial catheter (also called an arterial line or A-line) is a thin, flexible tube inserted into an artery to monitor continuous blood pressure, obtain frequent blood samples, or assess hemodynamic status in critically ill patients.

    Product Features

    ● Real-time blood pressure monitoring (more accurate than non-invasive cuffs).
    ● Direct arterial blood sampling (for ABGs, labs).
    ● Common insertion sites: Radial artery (most common), femoral, brachial, or dorsalis pedis.
    ● Uses: ICU, major surgery, shock, hemodynamic instability.

    Instruction for use

    ● Site Selection: Common sites—radial (preferred), femoral, brachial, or dorsalis pedis.Perform Allen test for radial artery to assess collateral circulation.
    ● Prep: Sterile technique—clean site with antiseptic, drape.
    ● Anesthetize: Inject lidocaine subcutaneously at insertion site.
    ● Cannulation: Seldinger technique (common): Insert needle at 30–45° angle, advance until blood flashes back, thread guidewire, then catheter.
    ● Direct cannulation: Insert catheter-over-needle into artery until flash, then advance catheter.
    ● Confirm placement: Blood return should be pulsatile.
    ● Secure: Suture or adhesive device; apply sterile dressing.
    ● Connect: To pressurized saline flush (500 mmHg) and transducer for continuous monitoring.

    Product application

    ● Continuous BP monitoring (e.g., vasopressor use, severe hypotension/hypertension).
    ● Frequent blood sampling (e.g., ABGs in ventilated patients).
    ● Hemodynamic monitoring (e.g., cardiac output calculations in shock).
